Who Am I?

I’m Shanetta McDonald, a somatic life coach, writer, and mother. I’m also a former publicist, a recovering perfectionist, and a woman who’s learning to lead with softness instead of survival. My work lives at the intersection of healing and expression, helping people return to themselves, tap into their inner knowing, and create a life that actually feels good to live. I care deeply about accountability, freedom, growth, and telling the truth—even (especially) when it’s uncomfortable.

What have I done?

I’ve spent over a decade helping others shape and share their stories—first as a publicist, then as a narrative coach and guide. I’ve worked with authors, therapists, entrepreneurs, and creative changemakers to clarify their message and make it resonate.

But after years of pushing and performing, my body demanded something different. So I listened. I’m now focused on embodiment, nervous system awareness, and somatic healing—because your story can’t change if your body still believes the old one.

Your Body Knows is an extension of that belief. It’s also the name of my podcast, where I explore what it means to trust your intuition, reclaim your story, and come home to your body.

What else?

I’m writing a memoir about recovering from bulimia as a Black woman, tracing how control, safety, and trauma shaped my relationship to food, body, and self-worth. I’m also the mother of Genevieve, who teaches me daily about joy, softness, and staying present.
